Ungdomsøen is located in the historic Middelgrundsfort off Copenhagen. We are a platform for experiences and community. Everyone is welcome on our island.
Young people from Copenhagen can stay overnight at Ungdomsøen for free from Tuesday to Sunday all year round. It is an offer for groups of friends. You can choose between sleeping in a shelter with a fireplace and sea view, in a tent at the campsite or in the historic dormitories where soldiers once lived.
At Ungdomsøen, you can cook over a fire, book our sauna, camp in nature and explore the wild historic surroundings of the sea fort.
You need to arrange your own transport to Ungdomsøen and bring your own food. But we provide kitchen facilities, so you have somewhere to cook. You can also buy snacks, ice cream and drinks in our kiosk on the quay.
Free overnight stays are an offer for young Copenhageners aged 15 to 30, made possible with support from the City of Copenhagen.

There is only one way to get to Ungdomsøen, and that is by boat. You can sail yourselves, board the SparShipping ferry in Nyhavn or book an action-packed boat trip with Actionboat.dk.
SparShipping's ferries sail from Nyhavn to Ungdomsøen from Tuesday to Sunday all year round. The trip from Nyhavn to Ungdomsøen takes half an hour. Buy your ferry ticket at www.sparshipping.dk from May to October.
The Ungdomsøen harbour is open to everyone, and you are also welcome to sail out to us yourselves. Visiting Ungdomsøen in your own boat is free for all young people aged 30 and under. If you bring parents or friends who are over 30, they pay a harbour fee. Read more about the harbour on the Sailors page here on the website.
You need to bring your own food when you visit Ungdomsøen. You can use our shared kitchen, Kabyssen (the Galley), when you cook.
We have gas grills and outdoor kitchens you can use. And you can rent fire pits and fire kits and buy firewood if you want to cook over a fire. In our kiosk, you can buy drinks, snacks and light meals and borrow lawn games.
You are surrounded by wild nature, sea and sky at Ungdomsøen, which was built in 1894. You are welcome everywhere – both inside and outside the fort.
COMMUNITY, NATURE, COMPETITION
Enjoy Ungdomsøen’s green areas with our outdoor garden games. At the kiosk, you’ll find games such as Kubb, giant Jenga, and croquet. These games are perfect for enjoying a sunny day at Ungdomsøen with friends or family.
Garden games can be borrowed for free at the kiosk, where you can also check which games are available.
ACTIVE, THE HARBOUR, NATURE
Test your balance and your skills on shaky ground with the Ungdomsøen stand-up paddleboards. They are for both beginners and experienced paddlers, as long as you are not afraid of getting wet. Use of the Ungdomsøen paddleboards is at your own risk and is only allowed in the Ungdomsøen harbour. You must be over 18 to rent the Ungdomsøen paddleboards.
Number: Four paddleboards.
Price per person: DKK 125 per board for young people / DKK 185 for people over 30. The price covers rental of the paddleboard for one hour.
Paddleboards are rented out in the kiosk.
MUSIC, SOUND, IMMERSION
Does your band need a place to record your next project? Do you have a podcast idea that you want to bring to life? Or do you just need a place to immerse yourself in sound? The music studio is open to all young people — completely free of charge.
Explore the island’s library, curated and filled with literature chosen by young people. The Library is open for everyone to use, and it also works as a great hangout on a rainy day and a cozy space for study groups or board game competitions.

Lydvandringen tager dig med gennem tiden, og undervejs kan du høre om livet på øen, som det var i gamle dage. Ved hvert stop finder du en QR-kode, som du kan scanne med din telefon. Når du gør det, åbnes historien om stedet, og du kan høre den præcis dér, hvor den fandt sted.

Our shelters are built under old rocket platforms, which provide cover in front of the shelter. They were designed and partly built by Ungdomsøen's young volunteers, who came up with shelters with shutters that can protect against wind and weather all the way round. There are also power sockets in the shelter and a sunken fire pit with a mobile grill on the space in front. From the shelter, there is a view across the Øresund towards Copenhagen in the west and Malmö in the east.
You can of course rent sleeping mats, sleeping bags and a fan heater for the shelter.
Room for 8–10 people. You can book a place in a shared shelter or book a whole shelter if you want to be sure of having it to yourselves.
Price per person: DKK 120 for young people and DKK 175 for people over 30.
Price per shelter: DKK 660 for groups of young people and DKK 950 for families, adult groups and business guests.
Spend the night in the old dormitories that once housed up to 40 soldiers in hammocks. The newly renovated dormitories sleep ten people in bunk beds with duvets and pillows, plus two shower cubicles and one toilet. The dormitories have a fantastic view of the Ungdomsøen harbour and on towards Copenhagen from the landing, built by Ungdomsøen's young volunteers.
This dormitory sleeps 10 people. You can either book a single bed in the dormitory, like at a hostel, or book the whole dormitory.
We have nine 10-person dormitories on the first floor of Ungdomsøen. Keys to the dormitories are available, and bed linen and towels can be added.
Price per single bed: DKK 185 for young people / DKK 260 for people over 30.
Price for the whole dormitory: DKK 1,250 for youth groups / DKK 1,800 for families, adult groups or business guests.

Our campsite fits more than 600 people, and you can therefore easily rent space for yourselves and your tent. At the campsite you also find our free outdoor kitchens, as well as toilet and bath facilities. The campsite has oceanview of the Sound no matter where you place your tent.
We advise you to bring your own tent and sleeping equipment, but it is possible to rent a tent, sleeping mat or sleeping bag in case your forget your own.
Space at our campsite is paid per person.
Space: Up to 1.000 people.
Price per person: 60 DKK for young people and 80 DKK for people over 31 years.
If you arrive at Ungdomsøen in your own boat, you can choose to stay overnight in it. It costs DKK 40 per person for young people and DKK 60 for people over 30. Remember to report your arrival in the kiosk, where you also pay for the overnight stay.
