TAG OVER (Take Over) – come and help create, improve and express yourself creatively in the inspiring surroundings of the old Middelgrundsfort.

Every other Wednesday in even weeks, we invite other young people to come out, take over and be part of our community. We want to create a platform for youth engagement and creative ideas. Here you can give room to your urge to create using Ungdomsøen's resources, materials and unique location.

At TAG OVER, you can do anything from project sparring and idea development to knitting, sewing, building, maintaining and repairing – or just whatever you dream of.

TAG OVER is a no-strings-attached format where our focus is that everyone has a good time at Ungdomsøen. It is also an open format, so if you would like to facilitate something at a TAG OVER evening, please write to us with your ideas. If you need help getting started on projects, there will always be youth hosts on hand with various tasks and projects you can start on.

At Ungdomsøen we have a ceramics studio, a sound studio, a library, workshops and much more. So come, express yourself creatively and help us create and maintain the fort together with others.

Taking part is completely free, and we provide dinner, snacks and the boat trip.

Ungdomsøen's ceramics workshop is a playground for all creative souls. Here we make beautiful ceramics, practise, fail and hopefully get really good at making ceramics together. Keep an eye out for our ceramics events and join the ceramics group on our Discord server here.

The Island Council is the democratic body of Ungdomsøen, where everyone aged 15 to 30 has a vote. For example, this is where decisions are made about which events should take place at Ungdomsøen.

The Island Council Working Group, known as ØRA, facilitates the Island Council. This means that the engaged young people in ØRA call the meetings, set the agenda and make sure the meeting is held. The Island Council meets every other month all year round.

Green Island works with sustainability – both on making Ungdomsøen more sustainable and in society in general. Among other things, Green Island helps create SUSTAIN – the Ungdomsøen sustainability festival.

Ungdomsøen was originally a military sea fort, built in 1890. Ungdomsøen therefore has a truly unique history. Through all the years, the people living at Ungdomsøen have been young – whether 900 soldiers or six Give-A-Year volunteers. That is the story we tell when the group works with history and storytelling, for example by creating activities, written material or exhibitions. The merch group develops new designs and products that can be sold in the kiosk at Ungdomsøen. They work mainly digitally, sharing ideas with each other and getting feedback on them. When the concepts are ready to be made, they are produced in Ungdomsøen's merch room. For example, the group has printed T-shirts on Ungdomsøen and had Ungdomsøen lighters and water bottles produced. The merch group is for you if you would like to work with product design and/or our machines such as the vinyl cutter, 3D printer and embroidery machine. At Ungdomsøen, we believe the best stories come from – and are told by – the people who use Ungdomsøen! That is why we have a number of young volunteers who help with everything from taking photos and making videos to creating content for the newsletter and, not least, making lots of great TikToks! Every year, two young people are elected as youth observers on our two boards – Fonden Ungdomsøen and Middelgrundsfonden. It is an important role that gives you influence on the future of Ungdomsøen.

You are introduced to the work of sitting on a board that helps shape and set the direction for Ungdomsøen. You gain experience in developing an organisation and making sure we always create value for young people. And you get a strong network among the other board members.

All young people aged 15 to 30 can stand for election, and you do not need any experience – we make sure you are well prepared for the role.

In the November darkness, 20 young people gathered to immerse themselves in the world of poetry together. Over a weekend, they learned more about themselves, each other and their poetic universe through workshops and, not least, an inclusive community. The retreat was organised by Sofus, a Give-A-Year volunteer, together with, among others, the poetry committee at Aurehøj Gymnasium.

The fort's underground passages are the perfect location for Halloween. Every year since 2019, young people have come together to create a great Halloween event. It can be anything from a mystery to be solved to a hardcore horror run, but one thing is certain: they are hugely popular, so make sure you get a ticket for Halloween at the Fort before it sells out.
 

In the summer of 2025, Ungdomsøen was contacted by ThreeDot, who wanted to hold a one-day festival at Ungdomsøen – and they did! On a hot July day, 60 young people gathered for an unforgettable hip-hop party. People danced to DJs and hip-hop artists from the Danish underground in the fort's old concrete gun emplacements, and the atmosphere was electric!

The Give-A-Year volunteers of 2024–2025 teamed up with Talerskolen Røst to give the floor to young people with something on their minds. More than 100 young people took part in the two Dinner and Speeches events, which offered important messages, good food and an engaged audience.

Over the summer of 2025, the Give-A-Year volunteers at Ungdomsøen teamed up with Flor København to give Ungdomsøen's kitchen garden some love. Over a number of days and evenings, there was weeding, sowing, watering and, not least, good times – and the garden certainly blossomed.

A group of young people dreamed of being able to immerse themselves in making ceramics together at Ungdomsøen. They formed the Ceramics Group and got funding to buy a kiln, clay and glaze. In a short time, the ceramics community grew from a group of 4–5 young people to sold-out events, where more than 50 young people made ceramics together over the autumn.
